Rest in Peace

Coffin Couches are made from recycled caskets collected from southern California funeral homes, a new way of thinking “green”. Each casket has been previously occupied, but not buried, and is embossed with biohazard signs on the legs. A bit of a step up the Gawth ladder than the black couch you got at Ikea, eh?

So, uh, what situation results in a coffin being “occupied” but not buried?

Apparently, a body can be placed inside a coffin for display purposes, but not buried. I assume it may also have something to do with bodies destined for cremation, but don’t quote me on that.
According to Coffin Couches’ website: “These coffins are not used for burial due to slight cosmetic inconsistencies.”
Why that would matter once it’s six feet under is totally beyond me.
