Translucent Black Lip Gloss
The runways have been overflowing this season with vampy-glam makeup: especially dark, lustrous, red lips. The look comes from layering a translucent black lip gloss over a vibrant red lipstick, and makeup companies are hustling to replicate it.

Lancome had a waiting list when it released it’s Piha Black Lip Gloss in November- a sheer, shiny black made to wear over their Piha Red Lipstick. Limited-edition set priced at $48. Available at Bloomingdale’s.
Yves St. Laurent quickly followed suit, releasing their Gloss Pur Black, a similar transparent high-shine gloss that’s a little bit more affordable. It smells like black licorice, which is either a plus or a minus depending on your relationship with Jagermeister. $28 at Sephora.
A sad note in this column- rumor has it Christian Dior has discontinued the entire Plastic Shine lip gloss line, including the not-so-translucent, latex-look, handle-with-care blackness that is #997, Alluring Black. You can still grab it online, though. $23 at Cosmetic Garments.
