Let the Right One In
I have yet to jump on the Twilight bandwagon. Subtexts of teen abstinence and virtue have no place in my vampire lore, and quite frankly, no one will do that better than Louis and Lestat (sans the teen bit, I suppose). Thankfully, Let the Right One In arrived a few months ago.
Let the Right One In was by far the best movie that I saw in all of 2008. Sadly, it was not released widely, and many, many people did not even hear of it, never mind get the chance to see it. Thankfully, it was based on a novel, which I wish I had read slower. Now that I have finished it, I must bide my time until the DVD release in March. I am apprehensive of giving any plot points here, since I fear that I could never properly articulate the beauty of the story, so please, take my word that both the film and the novel are masterpieces.
I implore you, please see this film before the terrible American remake is released. The man responsible for the shaky-camfest, vapid character filled Cloverfield has signed on for the new version, and it makes me shake my fist and declare that there is, indeed, no god.
Obviously, this post has nothing whatsoever to do about fashion, but one must be well rounded, eh? Couture Culture, perhaps?

I keep hearing so much about this film! Unfortunately, it wasn’t released near me, but I am definitely going to rent it once it comes out!

YES. i just watched this the other day and it was brilliant.
a trillion thumbs down on the cloverfield director, i’ll be noticeably absent from the theater the day that’s released.

thank you so much for the link – i was thinking about your comment about twilight – i was literally sucked into the bandwagon – and i have enjoyed the books and the movie. perhaps because i am geographically located in the same locale as ‘Forks’ and i think there is something unworldly about the mountains and the coastal rainforest. perhaps it is because the more information a young woman has the more likely she is to wait for the ‘right time’ for her to have sex – perhaps it is simply the old adage of romantic love – i don’t know what it is but i have certainly enjoyed the film and the books…
‘let the right one in’ looks like incredible lore and i can’t wait to see it.

Kristin – Definitely pick up the book! I just finished it a few days ago, and it instantly became one of my favorite novels of all time.
Emily – I was SO enraged when I found out about the Cloverfield guy. If I properly articulated how terrible that movie was, this blog would no longer be safe for work, and we’d probably get blocked on Google safe searches.
Dana – I’ve heard such a mixed reaction to the books & movies. I’m sure I’ll wind up renting it once it’s out on DVD.
Have you seen Puppet Twilight yet?

i may have just fallen in love with the brilliance of SpookyDan of Puppet Twilight fame! Thank you!

does anyone no where I could get my hands on Let the Right One In? Do I need to wait until March? I wonder if Netflix will have.

P.S. Dana, have you ever read any of Laurell K. Hamilton’s?

Jamie – you could always pick up a copy of the novel to tide you over until then!

I liked the movie, but I’m loving the novel. It’s mood and writing style has me totally sucked in.

Let The Right One In was beautiful in many ways: the cinematography was vivid without reaching excess; the actors were more engaging than any of the myriad, sufferable tween/teen/young adult actors here in America; the language lends itself beautifully to the nature of the film…I could ramble further without capturing the brilliance of this film! I have watched it twice in Austin and cannot wait until it is released. Shame on greedy American producers pining to remake this movie. Hollywood cares not for something fresh and not cut from the mold–hence the flurry of remakes and rehashed stories in lieu of anything new.

A friend of mine was just talking about Let The Right One In. I believe I need to see this movie seeing as how it keeps popping up onto my radar.
Also…don’t read Twilight. I made the mistake of reading it to see what the hype was all about and I regret it. I lost a few brain cells after reading that drivel.

The novel of Let The Right One In is one of the best vampire novels I’ve read in years. I’m very much looking forward to the DVD release.

spoken like a true Gen-X’er!
Agreed, although personally I found the film to be exceptionally adorable (so sue me)…Sorry, but I had my fill of “cry little sister” back in the 80s and poppy brite’s brand of homo-eroticsm as well as anne rice’s, are no exceptions to the rule …(Loved all those books and kudos to Poppy for keepin’ things goth) …but…I begrudgingly liked it. It’s got it’s own certain vampiric “Waltons” charm and this in itself is quite novel and fun in my humble opinion.
p.s.
let the right one in is fantastic too.
