New Kid on the Block

Part of my job is keeping track of the goings-on in the various natural history stores around the US and the world, and it is always very exciting for me when a new such place comes to my attention. The Gold Bug in Pasadena, California has a beautifully appointed website full of art, jewelry, and home decor for those not in the area. The feel of the place is hip and upper-end (or maybe I’m just used to navigating through the cobwebs at The Bone Room), – more like a boutique than a naturalist’s study. Which probably explains why $600 for a lamp in the shape of a dead bird doesn’t sound completely insane.

One of a Kind Sterling Silver Pincushion Ring, $500
Johnnyhead Tea-light Holders, $25 each
Limited Edition Silvered Bird Lamp, $600

Pair of Cast Pewter Dove Feet, $28

I like the pincushion a lot … but not to the tune of $500.00. That’s more than I pay for a month’s rent!
