Let Them Eat Cake
There is nothing new except what has been forgotten.
-Marie Antoinette
OK. I need to know. Is the periwig actually Fall’s must-have fashion accessory? In the last month, we have featured a disproportionate number of photoshoots with powdered wigs or other hairpieces straight out of the court of the Sun King (Powerful Heads, Antlers Away , The Return of the King). My boyfriend just returned from Vegas with tales of Amadeus-inspired burlesque and Louis XIV inspired boylesque. Ana Locking’s Autumn 2009 models walked the runway in 17th century up-dos. And then. Then Christian Louboutin made these Marie Antoinette heels.

For all that I love my basic black with it’s elegance and simplicity, there is something about the fashions of Versailles that just make me want paste jewels and fluffy sleeves, finger sandwiches and court intriugue. Ah, decadance!

I tend toward decadence as well… love this look. That top picture is ridiculously excellent. Are those Oompa Loompas?

The best thing about that clip is definitely the hidden Converse shoes. So much better than all that kitschy heeled crap.

Periwigs are not unwelcome as a trend for those of us who are more folliclly challenged.
