It’s hardly macabre, but there is a certain Lolita charm to Chanel’s Matryoshka handbag (above) and necklace (below).  Dolls in general, especially vintage ones, have their own speciel creepy factor, and I think that explains part of the appeal to me. That, and they are shiny and black, albeit in a Hello Kitty sort of way. Sadly, the sort of matryoshka madness that followed (Russian doll measuring cups?) tends to be more brightly colored, and not as awesome.

   Perhaps they are just a liiiittle Macabre. They always reminded me of tinier, cuter versions of iron maidens.
