The Dark Crystal :: The Version You’ve Never Seen

I haven’t had a chance to watch this just yet, but here’s a full length “director’s cut” of the Henson classic, The Dark Crystal. Pieced together by a fan, Christopher Orgeron has spent the last two years restoring a version of the film as Henson originally intended it to be. It’s supposed to be darker, weirder, and didn’t test well with focus groups in the early 80s.

Mental Floss has more info on the process, a brief interview with Orgeron, and a link just in case YouTube yanks the video.

Hopefully, I’ll find some time over the next few weeks to sit down & watch this, but for now, please let me know what you think!

I haven’t watched all of it yet. It is a little jarring how
the grainy quality film is interspersed with the HD stuff. I had a
Brian Froud illustrated version of the book as a kid, and honestly,
I know that a lot better than the movie, but it looks like some of
the bits that got cut were some really great lines that I loved
from the book. They also don’t have the voice over, which makes it
harder to understand, but I usually prefer things without the voice
over. It makes it more creepy and mysterious. It is definitely a
scary film, when I first saw it as an adult, I was pretty scared,
even though I had the book as a kid.
