Dead on Paper has released a set of playing cards based off of the Victorian Spiritualist movement, funded by a Kickstarter that I sadly missed. Luckily, the project was fully funded, and is now available for the public to purchase.
Grown out of mesmerism and hypnosis, the Spiritualist Movement reached its peak in the late 1800’s, with a belief that the dead residing in the spirit world have the ability, and the want, to communicate with the living. Spiritualist communities still thrive in our modern world, especially the town of Lily Dale in upstate New York (I highly recommend Christine Wicker’s book Lily Dale : The Town That Talks to the Dead for further reading!), and is represented in much of BloodMilk’s prolific designs.
Each suit in the Dead on Paper Oracle Deck has a unique background, individually themed with automatic writing, spirit photography, and seances, central motifs of the Spiritualist Movement.
