Portland Doll Asylum

October is the time for haunted houses, but if you’re tired of the run-of-the mill ghouls and goblins, perhaps it’s time to try something weirder. This weekend I visited Portland, Oregon’s Doll Asylum.  Running again this weekend,  October 30th and 31st from 5-9pm, the private home is filled to overflowing with all manner of creepy dolls in creepier situations. Set up as a home for mentally unbalanced toys, the patients at the Asylum each have their own story- often including doctor’s notes, intake forms, and treatment reccommendations. The Asylum isn’t all that large- it takes only ten or fifteen minutes to do the whole thing, but admission is free, parking is easy, and they even give you cider at the end.  The photo ops alone are worthwhile!
