Hopeless Lingerie has enthralled us with their latest collection The Awakening, a “haunting blend of lace and mesh” that draws inspiration from the ghosts and vampires of early horror films. The obscure and abandoned have been muses for creator Gaby Adamidis since the line’s beginnings in 2008, and eight years later she and sister Dominique continue to create dark, modern, and romantic looks from their studio in Melbourne, Australia.
The soft bamboo jersey and black mesh detailed with exquisite straps and cut-outs appear very “on trend” now, but that was not always the case — it is thanks to Hopeless that this beloved style is now found in the top drawers of most lingerie lovers. Hopeless has pioneered the use of harness-bralettes and geometric details and their atmospheric editorials consistently add edge and mischief to their range of tops, bottoms, bodysuits, and other underpinnings. My very first Hopeless pieces were silky things from a 2010 collection, and I have fallen in love anew with each consecutive release.
“Hopeless Lingerie is designed for late night horror movie marathons, daytime choose your own adventures, and 24-hour self-indulgence. Following no rules or trends, inspiration for each collection usually involves B-Grade horror movies, volcanoes, glaciers, and creatures living in the great depths of the ocean.”
Perhaps the most wondrous thing about Hopeless is that custom sizing has always been available. All Hopeless pieces come in sizes xxs-xxl but it’s also possible to supply the brand with your exact measurements and receive something made explicitly for you. “We strongly believe all women have the right to wear what makes them feel beautiful, strong, and confident,” reads their About Us section. “Keeping production in-house and on a very small scale, means that we have the freedom to create custom sizing, shapes, and fabrications for any customer looking to make their Hopeless Lingerie dreams come true.”
