Stick To It

So, if you are wondering what’s up with all the interior design posts, I’m currently in the process of moving. Which means I get to paint. And decorate. So, I’ve been looking all over at design sites and I have decided that the thing I need most of all is a good paint job and […]

Sanctuary

Interior designer Tamara Magel‘s line of home fashions certainly leans towards the traditional Gothic motifs- plenty of skulls and crosses, for example. However, her choice in colors and fabrics and the overall simplicity of her work keeps it from becoming overdone or cliche. Finally, furniture for grown-up goths:

The Ghost of Xmas Past

Friends, we need to talk. It has come to my attention that some of you- perhaps even many of you- are still lighting your homes with Xmas lights. Keep in mind that by Xmas lights, I mean “tiny lights on a string”, even if yours have leetle bats or ghosties on them. Please stop. If […]

Rest in Peace

Coffin Couches are made from recycled caskets collected from southern California funeral homes, a new way of thinking “green”.  Each casket has been previously occupied, but not buried, and is embossed with biohazard signs on the legs.  A bit of a step up the Gawth ladder than the black couch you got at Ikea, eh?

Heartwarming

San Francisco ceramic artist Sarah Becker’s collection of handmade horned hearts, $225 each. These are made without any molds, so each one is totally unique, and come ready to hang.  She also makes just ceramic horns as centerpieces and displays (for the morbid vegan, perhaps?).  Some hearts can also be customized with tattoo-style banners, but […]

Spinal Tap

I was first shown this lamp by artist Mark Beam back in 2007.  Retailing directly through the designer for $1500, I’ve been telling myself to start saving my pennies ever since.   At one point I saw it also available in all-natural bleach-bone white, but currently, I can only find the gold.

Modern Alchemists & Purveyors of Curious Goods

The last few days, Haute Macabre has been showcasing the creative mind of Douglas Little, first in the House & Garden magazine spread, and later, the Bergdorf Goodman window display inspired by the magazine.  Little crafts items to indulge the senses, including fragrances, soaps, decor, and delicacies.   Mr. Douglas Little is a sybarite of […]

More Than a Mouthful

Let There Be Light

The Zenith Chandelier is the perfect addition to any home.  Well, perhaps not any home, but I assume anyone’s home that is reading Haute Macabre.  Unfortunately though, it is priced at an astronomical $82,800.  Unless it is made of magic, grants you wishes on demand, and when its light fills your room angels start singing […]

Torture Devices

A diesel-mechanic turned jeweler from the post-industrial wasteland of New Jersey (shudder…) presents to us Spragwerks.  Each piece is cash and hand finished by its founder, whom identifies himself as Rich.   “My work explores the tense intersection of the organic by the industrial, and particularly the consumption of one by another.” I have a […]
