I’m not entirely sure what’s up with Tsubo. They seem to be a company with multiple personalities. They make some really ugly shoes of the sort that look totally comfortable and functional and that middle-aged Berkeley hippies wear with yoga pants to go to Trader Joe’s. Then again, they make some perfectly middle-management shoes with sensible heels and rubber soles, in a variety of neutral tones, which speak to me of carpeted cubicle walls, morning meetings, and standing in line for the copy machine. But on the third hand, they also make some really strange and adorable boots- the Sidons are right at the top of my current want list. I love the turned-up toes, and although I haven’t personally tried them on (yet) rumor has it they are super-comfy. Has anyone experimented with these? Opinions?

Shoeturday & My Retail Remorse

Unfortunately, on my recent trip to New York, I not only missed The Brothers Quay exhibit, but never got a chance to visit Top Shop. I’ve come to realize this is probably a good thing for my wallet, as I probably would have come home even less financially stable as usual, but would have gained an arsenal of new shoes. Nixon might die just a tiny bit when she sees the first pair I’ve got posted here, considering her boot lust for The New Fur.

Belgian designer Ann Demuelemeester‘s clothes are difficult to pigeonhole- sometimes her silhouettes seem sleek and refined, sometimes it seems like her models were the unfortunate victims of a fabric store tornado. But whether her couture is hit or miss, she almost always gets it right when it comes to her line of footwear. Be warned- her prices are not for the faint of heart.
