One of the best things about writing for a fashion blog is that at a certain point, people send you samples to review. Now, a lot of times around HM this involves Samantha and I staring blankly into a box of hot pink donkey-print dresses (no, I didn’t make that up) and wondering if there was some sort of mixup at the post office.

Needless to say, we were very excited when the folks from Surgeon-X decided to let us sample their cosmetics line! Miss X is full of cute packaging, and the color names are the best I’ve seen since Urban Decay: “Smackhead Barbie”, “Royally Fucked”, and “Too Dark Park”, for exaple. So, how did the samples fare in terms of review?

Miss X eyeshadows are loose, mostly glittery shadows that come in a sifter box. Strangely, both Samantha and I have found that of the colors we were sent, our hands-down fave is “Doll Parts”, a light, shimmery pink! I know it sounds odd, but it’s a great daywear shade- subtle, yey shiny enough to make your eyes really pop. I also liked “Cold Metal Perfection”, a glittery silver that layered well over other silvers and blacks. The darker shades are a little bit hard to control and blend, especially if you are used to cake shadow.

We also tried the gel eyeliner and the glitter.

The “Knives Out” silver gel eyeliner was a light, true silver that spread very easily and stayed put well. My only complaint is that it didn’t layer well- it tends to fade if you put it over anything darker. The darker shades faired better here for wearing with eyeshadow.

Finally, the glitter. These guys make their glitter super fine! according to the website, this makes it ‘eye safe’. I like because it looks more like an even metallic shine and less like… well… glitter… than coarser brands. It also feels less creepy if you use it on your lips.
