Sale of Indulgences

Is it just me, or is Alexander McQueen’s Autumn/Winter 09-10 show clearly a homage to San Francisco’s unfailingly fabulous do-gooders, The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence? Except, of course, that the Sisters always look like they are at a Damn Fine Party (which is true, because by definition anywhere with more than two sisters is automatically a Damn Fine Party), and McQueen’s models look like they’re mad as Hell about living on Diet Coke. Or making hats out of it.

Speaking of the Sisters and their Damn Fine Parties, they are currently celebrating their 30th anniversary in full Abbey style, with a four day blowout called Nun World Order. Easter Sunday, the Sisters will be celebrating in San Francisco’s Dolores Park.  The Bonnet Contest promises to be worthy of Aretha Franklin, and that’s before we even get to the Hunky Jesus Contest.

Also,  from April 10 to June 28th, you can check out “Under a Full Moon: 30 Years of Perpetual Indulgence”, an exhibition from the Abbey of Saint Joan’s archives, at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.

It’s funny, but when i saw the headpieces made from aluminium cans and what looked like garbage bags painted silver, I couldn’t help but think of “Derelicte” from Zoolander….*juvenile snicker*
