Finding its roots in the Parisian Surrealist Movement, Exquisite Corpse is a collaborative game in which the participants continuously add on to a piece of art, poetry, or writing, to create an end result of married stylistic approaches. With this in mind, Jess Schnabel has collected a selection of her favorite independent artists and brands to create a series of lifestyle goods, all falling under the careful and mysterious aesthetic of the BloodMilk brand.
The first collection includes a trio of scents by the beloved Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab, each blended specifically to pair with one of the existing talismans of the BloodMilk Jewelry collection. With labels designed by Aaron Horkey to emulate an old apothecary jars, each fragrance amplifies the veil of mysticism associated with its corresponding jewel, and acts as a psychic balm for the wearer. This initial run consists of only 35 of each bottle, but will be available again in the future.
For the book lover, Jess has collaborated with artists Aaron Horkey, Bill Crisafi, and Liza Corbett to design a series of tote bags, sturdy enough to carry one’s personal library. Printed with silver ink, the durable canvas totes will each feature the BloodMilk Exquisite Corpse logo, designed by Aaron Horkey, pictured above. Each design is currently limited to 25 pieces, with more printings to follow in the future.
The final installation of the line are two scented candles for the home, created by Three Ravens Company. Entitled Surrealist Darling: Fini, named for the artist Leonor Fini, and Forgotten Library, their fragrances were created with the intention of casting a moody atmosphere of the life of the Parisian artist of the early 1900s. Limited to only 45 of each, which will not be made available again.
Owl Moon Crescent: Dark, rooty, sweet patchouli swirled with honey
Lorraine Cross: Steam-distilled Somalian myrrh with wild crafted rockrose, Moroccan rose absolute, and white sandalwood
Surrealist Darling: Fini :: Aged Patchouli, Rose, Leather, Vetiver, Musk, creating a unique scent reminiscent of a wildly independent female artist working in the surrealist vein during the early 1900’s.
Forgotten Library: Clove, Damp Old Wood, Paper, and Leather, recreating the atmosphere of an beloved tome forgotten in time.
