Inspired by Philadelphia's Laurel Hill Cemetery, where I spent a hot summer afternoon once, exploring its inhabitants and watching an intense thunder storm roll in over its gardens, danced with ghosts in an unlocked receiving vault, and collected animal bones that were offered to me. This is my gift back, to share with all of you.

Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab was one of the very first advertisers on the Haute Macabre blog, and in 2011 we began collaborating on perfumes together. Since then, HM x BPAL has become an ongoing and ever-expanding collection of vegan perfume oils, hair glosses, lotions, and room sprays. Each fragrance starts as a feeling, a memory, or an experience, and is then conceptualized & brought to life by Elizabeth Barrial, the indie house’s master perfumer.

On a personal note, Black Phoenix has become my family in every sense of the word. After years of emailing BPAL’s co-owner, Brian, to place Haute Macabre’s orders, we eventually met, and I’ve had stars in my eyes for him ever since. We now live in a haunted house outside of Philadelphia, and I am grateful every day for that initial ad space inquiry over 15 years ago.
